A little tutorial on propagation of mealworms for bird or reptile feeder insects.
To start a farm:
Get a bus tub or shallow plastic bin
We order our initial 1000 super worms from Fluker Farms... link below

Use wheat germ for the substrate.... Can generally find this at a farm and ranch store or a whole foods store.
Put mealworms in the bin with wheat germ and cover with a screen top or towel.
Feed them sliced apples, potatoes, sweet potatoes, lettuce, pears, bread, etc.
Just cover the top of the farm with fresh sliced food and add more every 4-6 days or so. Clean out old dried food and insects. Add more wheat germ every few weeks as needed. Change out towel as needed.
The beetles are the adults. The adults will lay eggs in the substrate and hatch into tiny mealworms. The worms will grow and grow and eventually turn into white larva that will emerge into an adult and the cycle continues. They live in dark places in the ground so they don't climb out of the bin, but they will crawl on top of the towel.
Happy worm farming!!
