MATLAB simulations are presented to demonstrate the application of sliding mode control for a simple example of a pendulum.

The simulations demonstrate that sliding mode control can effectively control the system. Furthermore, the delays in switching device result into chattering which is clear from the plot of control input and also from the plot of phase portrait.
