Whenever a pregnant woman experiences abdominal pain especially if she's preterm, it's very normal to get a little anxious about it and to wonder what it is and if you should be worried about it. There are some warning signs of preterm labor that you should be aware of and watch out for. If you ever experience constant or intermittent lower abdominal cramping, constant or intermittent lower back ache, any leaking of fluid from the vagina, abdominal tightening, pressure, bleeding or spotting, or an increase in discharge associated with the pain, then you should always call your doctor and get checked out. They can ask you more specific questions about the types of pain you've been experiencing and determine if further investigation is warranted for it. Generally speaking contractions do feel like abdominal cramping, lower back ache, or abdominal tightening and pressure. If you feel like you're having these sensations four to five times an hour, which is only every 10 to 15 minutes, then you should get checked out. The only way you can know if it's concerning or not is by talking with your doctor and having an exam.
