The Golani Brigade was founded on February 22nd, 1948, three months before the founding of the State of Israel. It is considered the first combat brigade of the IDF and was initially stationed in the valleys and hills of the Lower Galilee in northern Israel.
The Golani Brigade has participated in the most crucial battles in the history of the country. During the War of Independence, the brigade officially entered the IDF and took part in battles in the Jordan Valley against the armies of Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq. In the Sinai Campaign in 1956, the brigade captured the Rafah area and allowed passage to the armored forces. During the Six-Day War in 1967, the brigade recorded many achievements; one of the most prominent was at the battle of Tel Faher in which the Syrian outpost at the edge of the Golan Heights was conquered.
During the First Lebanon War, the brigade played a significant role in the conquest of Beaufort and in the battle for Kfar Sil, and at the end of the war were responsible for maintaining posts in the security zone. Today, the unit's recruits honor the battles of the Yom Kippur War by climbing Mount Hermon to receive the unit's badge.
During the Second Intifada, the brigade led Operation Defensive Shield. The brigade also participated in the Operation "Summer Rains" in 2006. With the outbreak of the Second Lebanon War, the brigade led the battles that took place in the town of Bint Jbeil, Lebanon.

English translation:
My Golani
It's a multitude of people
My Golani
It's names and faces
Places and times
And different voices
Coming back in front of me.
My Golani
It's the war of liberation
My Golani
It's the same story
Of successful Yael
Of all the people of Israel
Coming back in front of me.
Golani, my Golani, my Golani
Golani, my Golani, my Golani
Golani, my Golani, my Golani
Golani, my Golani, my Golani.
My Golani
It's the Sinai War
My Golani
It's Rafah and fire
And in the Six Days War
To the top of Tel Faher
To the top of the hill in front of me.
My Golani
It's also the Yom Kippur War
It's Hermon
At the top of the mountains
Rifles fired
And the bad ones remaining
On the roadside in front of me.
Golani, my Golani, my Golani...
My Golani
Legend and story
My Golani
No signal, nor decoration
Last evening
And hope for tomorrow
Are Returning to me.
Golani, my Golani, my Golani...
