Track 1 from their fourth album “Vol. 4” released in 1972, copyright Vertigo Records. It was recorded in Los Angeles at The Record Plant and the band rented a mansion in Bel Air for rehearsals. Half of the recording budget was spent on cocaine and the rest on studio time. This was their first album without producer Rodger Bain. The band and their manager are credited as co-producers, but guitarist Tony Iommi took care of most of the actual production duties himself. He also taught himself to play the piano after finding one in a room of their rented mansion and used it to compose “Changes.” This is considered one of their more experimental albums. It achieved Gold status a month after its release and Platinum status in 1986. Recorded from the original vinyl. Written by Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne & Bill Ward and produced by Black Sabbath & Patrick Meehan. Featuring:
Ozzy Osbourne – Lead vocals
Tony Iommi – Lead & rhythm guitars, piano & Mellotron
Geezer Butler – Bass & Mellotron
Bill Ward – Drums & percussion
Long ago I wandered through my mind
In the land of fairy tales and stories
Lost in happiness, I knew no fears
Innocence and love was all I knew
It was an illusion
Soon the days were passing into years
Happiness just didn’t come so easy
Life was more than fairy tales and daydreams
Innocence was just another word
It was an illusion
Lost in the wheels of confusion running through valleys of tears
Eyes full of angry delusion hiding in everyday fears
So I found that life is just a game
But you know there’s never been a winner
Try your hardest, you’ll still be a loser
The world will still be turning when you’ve gone, yeah, when you've gone
