"Today we have witnessed a very interesting turn of events - at least I am not aware of any other such cases. The role was played by the fact that the male is young and inexperienced, its connection with the territory and this partner is not so strong yet. The female continues to breed due to inertia, but it cannot be ruled out that another egg will be laid in this nest, the next week or two will show.
I ringed the egg-eating bird in the vicinity of Jaunpils on 25.05.2016. It is a young female who has reached the age of nesting and is looking for a nesting area, it cannot be ruled out that we will see it here yet and the conflicts will continue.
And again, I urge you to refrain from devoting insulting epithets to birds in your comments. It is a privilege to watch nature up close. Each such case increases our knowledge. "
