STORYLINE:
US warplanes continued to bomb positions on or near the Taliban frontlines north of Kabul on Thursday.
American jets carried out a sustained bombardment of positions near Rabat.
APTN filmed warplanes repeatedly bombing frontline positions.
B-52 bombers and F-16 jets pounded the area, sending up huge columns of smoke.
Huge plumes of smoke billowed from Taliban positions, which did not fire anti-aircraft guns as they have done on past bombing runs.
It was unclear whether the guns had been knocked out or whether the Taliban were saving their ammunition.
Eyewitnesses also said that a bomber flew over the Taliban-held town of Qarabagh and enormous explosions followed.
Qarabagh is about equidistant between the Taliban-held capital Kabul and the opposition-held Jabal Saraj, some 60 kilometers (40 miles) to the north.
Opposition fighters said they saw 10 bombs fall near Estargeh, a Talbian-held town.
Two bombs fell on Rahesh.
Another four bombs fell in the area of Qari Muheb, behind Taliban frontlines.
