• Alternating skeins blends tones and ensures even coloration throughout your project.
• You should consider alternating skeins if your project will use more than one skein of the same colorway hand-dyed or kettle-dyed yarn.
• Even if the skeins are from the same dye lot or look very similar, it's still a good idea to alternate. Skeins knit alone can pool or flash, and small differences between skeins can become obvious once they are knit up in the same project! You could end up with color-change lines where you stopped working with one skein and began another.
• For a larger project, sort your skeins into two sets that look the most alike. For example, lighter and darker skeins of a tonal colorway, or skeins with similar dominant hues for a variegated colorway. Alternate a skein from one set with a skein from the other set for all parts of the project.
