COP 26
The biggest news story of the week is happening in Scotland! Leaders from all over the world are in Glasgow for the COP 26 climate summit. They're used to making big decisions, but right now, many say the fate of the world lies in the hands of these powerful people who are gathered here in Glasgow in Scotland for the UN's climate summit COP 26. It's called that because it's the 26th Conference of the Parties, meetings that leaders have had since 1995 to try to address Climate Change.
And this year's is particularly important. Leaders will be outlining their plans to stop the global temperature from rising by more than 1.5 degrees celsius. To do that, scientists say they'll have to make some drastic changes, and if they don't, the world could face some catastrophic consequences. COP 26 will go for 2 weeks, and many will be watching closely, and hoping for some solutions to the planet's big problems.
INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL
International travel is back! Today for the first time in a long time, vaccinated Aussies were free to leave the country without permission. And Aussies could come back to New South Wales and Victoria without quarantining.
T20
Australia's T20 match up with England did not go to plan. They managed just 125 runs from their 20 overs, which England chased down with ease. England keeper Jos Buttler top scored whacking 71 from 32 balls. The Aussies will now take on Bangladesh this Thursday
SWIMMING
Kyle Chalmers has just smashed a 13 year old world record. He swam a blistering 44.84 seconds in the short-course 100m freestyle at a World Cup meet in Russia. Meanwhile Olympic superstar Emma McKeon was crowned overall World Champion, capping off an unbelievable year.
GOLF
Aussie golfer Lucas Herbert is a millionaire! The 25 year old has just won the PGA's Bermuda Championship, pocketing 1.5 million dollars in the process. It's his first year on the PGA tour, so this is a pretty good start!
SOCCER
Finally, is this the goal of the year? This goal by Dairon Asprilla in the USA's Major League Soccer has been going viral, with many saying it is the best goal this year I think they might be right.
DRACULA'S CASTLE
In the depths of the Transylvanian forest, you'll find the famous Bran castle, also known as Dracula's castle. Yes, Dracula was a real person, a 15th century Romanian Ruler, also known as Vlad the Impaler. He almost certainly wasn't a vampire, and whether or not he lived here is up for debate. But that hasn't stopped thousands of tourists from rocking up for a wickedly good Halloween. Of course, we are in a pandemic, so everything was COVID-safe.
ALICE SPRINGS TRICK OR TREAT
Meanwhile, Alice Springs got right into the trick or treating spirit. Some folks went all out, decorating their yards with animatronic monsters, lights, the works, turning regular houses into DIY haunted houses! I'm sure you'll have a little spring in your step, after that one. Get it, Alice, Spring, in your step?
HALLOWEEN ZOO
And finally, to a Czech zoo, where animals are getting a taste of the spooky season. Or maybe just pumpkin. Elephants squashed their way through the thick skins to get to the juicy flesh inside. And meerkats went treasure hunting inside a Jack O Lantern. But who could forget the chimps, who are famous for eating Bana--- um… pumpkins. Of course.
