New this morning, with less than two weeks to go until the start of the new school year, UT researchers say new numbers show segregation continues to plague Texas schools, and they say it's impacting one group of kids disproportionately.Despite an accountability system in place for the last 20 years to promote equality, UT researchers say they found low-skilled teachers and a revolving door of principals are common in schools with a high number of students learning English, a group they say often falls under what they call triple segregation: high poverty, high minority, and low performing schools. With the report coming out 50 years after the Brown v. Board of Education ruling, researchers say TEA numbers show little progress when it comes to Hispanic and African-American segregation in schools. Researchers say they hope their findings will be a starting point for future inquiries and inspire others across the country to launch their own studies.Texas has the second-largest number of students enrolled in English as a second language in the country, second behind California.
