"The influence of Islamic radicalism is also magnified by helpers and enablers. They've been sheltered by authoritarian regimes, allies of convenience like Syria and Iran that share the goal of hurting America and modern Muslim governments. STORYLINE:
US President George W Bush told a largely military audience in Virginia on Friday that the United States must take action to fight terrorism around the world.
At a turbulent point in his presidency, Bush sought to bolster public backing for his war policies on Friday, just days after the US death toll in Iraq surpassed 2,000.
The president said the US must deal squarely with terrorism threats, saying "we must stop them before they multiply".
"We will never back down, we will never give in and we will never accept anything less than complete victory," the president said.
Bush spoke to an audience largely made up of uniformed service members, delivering a speech which was one of several he has given recently to defend his war policies and try to reassure a skittish country.
As the president spoke, a man on the second level interrupted him, yelling: "War is terrorism. War is terrorism. Step down now Mr. President. Torture is terrorism".
Bush continued speaking as the man was escorted out of the the hall.
Mindful of public anxiety, the president attempted to underscore the danger the United States faces from terrorists, comparing leaders of al-Qaida to historical figures Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin.
He also pointed to Syria and Iran as examples of "allies of convenience" to Islamic radicals and terrorists. He accused the two countries of using "terrorist propaganda to blame their own failures on the west, on America and on the Jews".
On Wednesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for the destruction of Israel by repeating the words of the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, saying "Israel must be wiped off the map".
Ahmadinejad's remarks have been condemned by several world leaders.
