Footage edited from two editions of the Deutsche Wochenschau newsreels showing an inspection of the Hitler Youth Division by Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt, C-in-C West, at Beverloo, Belgium, sometime in early 1944 and Waffen-SS panzer and panzer-grenadier detachments in action against leading elements of the 3rd Canadian Division advancing inland from JUNO Beach on 7 June 1944 in an attempt to capture Carpiquet airfield west of Caen.
The Panzer IV Ausf. H tanks seen in combat belong to II/SS-Panzer-Regiment-12 and are seen supporting the attack on Canadian troops in the village of Buron by infantrymen belonging to III/SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment-25.
The last section shows Canadians in SS custody. In the final shot, the Abbaye Ardennes can be seen in the background. At the time this footage was shot, the abbey was being used by SS-Panzer-Grenadier Regiment-25 as its headquarters. On the evening of 7 June, eleven Canadian soldiers from the Nova Scotia Highlanders and the 27th Armoured Regiment were shot and buried in the abbey grounds.
