Who is Maxime Le Mal in Despicable Me 4? Maxime is actually a former schoolmate of Gru's, and back then, they trained together to become villains at Lycée Pas Bon. However, Maxime has held a grudge against Gru for years because he believes Gru stole his song during a talent contest. Instead of performing himself, Maxime decided to carve out a reputation as a villain to gain the recognition and glory he felt he missed out on as a teenager. Things don't go smoothly for Maxime from the start. During his opening act, where he transforms into a hybrid of a cockroach with flight and super-strength abilities, Gru and the AVL manage to thwart him at a school reunion. Despite this setback, Maxime vows revenge, determined to make Gru pay for ruining his personal life years ago and hampering his villainous ambitions. Unfortunately, Maxime escapes AVL custody and teams up with his girlfriend, Valentina, to seek retribution. Maxime feels he's been bullied long enough—it's now his turn to strike back.
