BRISBANE 2032
It's official! The 2032 summer games will be held in Brisbane. The IOC voted in favour of the Queensland city at a meeting in Tokyo last night. And even though it's still more than 10 years away, officials and locals alike are super excited. It was kind of expected though, because here's a list of all the cities that put in a bid for the 2032 games. Yeah, Brisbane was the only one.
But, it's still huge news for Australia, and especially Queensland. But even without other cities to beat, the process to be selected isn't an easy one. A city has to prove they have suitable weather conditions, infrastructure, accommodation, funding for the games, and enough public interest and excitement which the IOC say Aussies really managed to demonstrate. By 2032, a whole new generation of athletes will be representing Australia, so who knows, maybe you could be among them.
MATILDAS WIN
The Tokyo Games may not have officially started yet, but a few events have already kicked off including soccer, and the Matilda’s have come out firing. They defeated New Zealand 2 -1, with both goals coming in the first half. Next up, the Aussies take on Sweden who are on top of the group, after defeating the US 3 - 0.
MILLY TAPPER TABLE TENNIS
We're sticking with the the games, because now it's time to meet Aussie table-tennis champ Milly Tapper. She's representing Australia in Tokyo.
NASA ROVER LOOKING FOR LIFE
NASA's Mars rover is about to begin looking for signs of life. The idea is that this rover will collect a bunch of samples, store them securely and eventually, one day, return to earth on another mission where they can be studied further.
ISS SUPPLY ROCKET
The International Space Station is getting some extra supplies! This rocket, carrying a special mini science lab, blasted off from Kazakhstan, kitted out with technical equipment, storage space and facilities for water and air regeneration.
JEFF BEZOS BACKLASH
And finally, Jeff Bezos is still facing backlash over this comment he made after flying to the edge of space. Yep, not everyone was impressed, mostly because they believe the money spent on Jeff's space flight could have been better spent on improving the lives of his workers. But it won't slow down Blue Origin, they've got two more flights scheduled for later this year.
