Children with neurological conditions often often struggle to balance while transitioning from sitting to standing, or are unable to do it when holding an object. For this tip, have the child sit at 90 degrees of knee and hip flexion. Have the child hold an object with both hands, and prompt them to stand. Help them as needed to learn how to balance without using their hands to push up and decrease assistance as the child makes progress.
Give them an opportunity to do this activity independently.
Once you see that the child is able to perform the activity independently, switch to a smaller object that allows them to have a free hand. This will allow you to see if the child is able to perform the activity without pushing from the empty hand to balance.
