10 mistakes to avoid when writing your first book
1. *Decide the main factors of your book.
What is it? A novel? Memoir? self-help? How to book? etc.
In what language? In which person? Style of the writing, “humorous? Informative? Narrative? ”
Who are your target readers? What can your book help? What’s the meaning of your book? What do you want to achieve with your book?
This is so important. I rewrote my first book because of some big mistake.
2. Think about the structure!
How many chapters approximately there will be?
Is it in the order of time? Or it’s reversed? Or is it mixed with the past and present.
3. Word count matters! A lot!
Have a vision of how thick your book will be.
4. Write what is important both to the readers and you.
Write what serves the book. Consider the readers, Not only you!
5. Have writing progress goals and stick to it.
6. Think how to keep the interest of the readers.
How to tell a story in a more engaging way? Nobody wants to read a boring book. There is no bad story, only good stories not well told.
7. Have people to keep up with your writing, read it, give opinions and probably correct it.
8. Be patient. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Take rests, short ones.
9. Reach out to traditional publishing first before self-publish it.
10. Enjoy the writing process.
