A 14-year old from Bentonville, Arkansas, suffered devastating injuries in a spring ATV accident, including multiple skull fractures and likely permanent facial paralysis.
His parents sought out Loyola University Medical Center neuro-otologist John P. Leonetti, MD, the only doctor in the U.S. who combines surgical facial nerve decompression (a standard treatment for Bell's palsy and facial paralysis) with interoperative electrical stimulation.
The family traveled to Maywood, Illinois for the procedure, and within weeks he was eating, smiling and laughing again, his facial muscles and movement fully restored.
