“Flourishing Age” (盛世国乐 Sheng Shi Guo Yue) is a guzheng ensemble work written by our guzheng virtuoso – Mr. Sun Jinyang and Mr. Zeng Wei. This piece was first performed in 2017 at China Central Television (CCTV), the national Chinese public service broadcaster. This piece focuses on depicting the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty, which has often been considered as a high point in Chinese civilization, and a golden age of cosmopolitan culture.

At our 3rd CUIMF West Road Hall Concert, Mr. Sun Jinyang led his guzheng ensemble, alongside Mike Skelton on the drum, to perform this grand and majestic work to our Western audience. Let us now recap this moment and take a chance to travel all the way back to this golden age of Chinese arts and culture through the melodious and unique tune of guzheng.
