(Video Circa 1993) Often misunderstood to be fighting, chi sau is not fighting... nor is it meant to be a competition although some promote it as such. Chi sau is simply an exercise medium within which one might develop a number of particular skills. Performing Chi Sau blindfolded is not a a sign of superior skill, since one is only practising the same skills as training without a blindfold.
Nothing should change. All drills can create bad habits, so if one finds themselves tensing up, struggling, becoming overly aggressive or losing focus, they should remove the blindfold, so that they can better focus on skill development. One should train thoughtfully, preferably under the guidance of a teacher who understands the medium of chi sau, lest the drill becomes a pointless waste of time.
Here I am working at the level of each individual student, matching their intensity and working with whatever they give me.
