Inspired by Shreenivasan Manievannan [ Ссылка ] with his talk on the GoPro Youtube channel [ Ссылка ] discussing night lapse and time lapse photography, I was inspired to try out my own Holy Grail of time lapse shoot from Day to Night.
I timed this shoot to also get the near full moon rising over the Brisbane City which helped to keep some light in the sky for this shoot.
The video was taken over 5 hours. I used a Ulanzi BG-2 Battery Grip and a Ulanzi G9-3 battery door with the GoPro 9. The BG-2 battery still gave me 87% capacity after the 5 hours. It also has the added benefit of having a 1/4" mounting screw in the bottom which allowed my to mount this straight onto my tripod with the GoPro 9 on top and then plug the USB-C cord through the G9-3 and then connect to the BG-2. I can highly recommend this battery grip and door if you are going to do some long shoots.
Settings:-
GoPro 9
Night Lapse Mode
Resolution 4K 4:3 (This allows me to crop and zoom in the video)
Lens - Wide
Format - Video
Interval - Auto (I use Auto as it allows me to not miss a frame during the time/night lapse sequence. I then speed ramp the video from the day part at 2000% down to 100% once the sun has completely set over the horizon and the GoPro changes its exposure to a much longer shutter speed).
Bite Rate - High
EV Comp set at - 1 EV (I spot metered off a section of the sky to maintain the exposure during the sequence)
White Balance - Auto ( I could set a white balance but I actually like the way GoPro auto white balance settings go from a nice warm tone at sunset to a cool blue once the sun has gone down)
ISO Min - 100 iso
ISO Max - 400 iso (If I didnt have the moon rise I would consider 800 iso but you will see some noise)
Colour - GoPro
Video Editing & Production:-
Speed ramping done in DaVinci Resolve 16
Final edit compiled in Adobe Rush

Tripod - Any sturdy tripod will do.
Patience - You need to be prepared to sit with your gear for a long period of time.
