"Philly stick together," says Philly rapper PNB Rock, whose fresh sound has made him a major force within the East Coast rap scene. "Free Meek!"
"When I first moved to my block, it was fuckin' 2002," recalls the Philly rapper whose life took a turn after he got of prison. "I didn't start making my own music till I was like 19, going on 20," PNB says. "I was locked up at the time. I was upstate doing two and a half to five and shit. I was pretty much at a time in my life where I was like, 'Damn-I'm tired of going back in and out of jail.'"
"I had a lot of time to think about what the fuck I was gonna do when I got home," he says. "I always knew I was into music and there was some shit goin' on upstate. People was making music up there. They had little keyboards, you could purchase a $200 keyboard and make a beat on that bitch, you could store like five beats on that shit. People was making' songs, goin' in! But they wasn't like regular shit. They were singing-not just traditional singing. They were singing about pain, singing about your man getting killed, real life shit. I can sing too, you know what I'm sayin? And I'm more younger than these people. I'm one of the younger guys up there-I'm like 19. I just knew I could pull up with a little bit more swag in my shit tho. Cause I'm fresh in. I still know the language that's going on, I know what niggas wearin'… I'm talking about some cool shit when I light my shit. I'm still a little shy through, cause those niggas is some tough-ass… If you come out there and your shit ain't hitting', they fin to let you know off the rip."
"I was on the new wave of the shit that was goin' on. All the older people were like…. "Damn this is some shit you got!" And they was like encouraging me to go home and basically telling me, "If you don't take this shit to the moon, we're gonna fuck you up if you come back in here. Point blank, period." So I came home, I was grinding it out and just locking in, The rest is history-and the story continues with his late 2017 album, 'Catch These Vibes.'
