Guardrails along high-speed roadways shield passenger and freight vehicles from roadside hazards. The end-transition piece of the guardrail is particularly important to the overall safety because its purpose is to lessen the severity of vehicle collision with the blunt end of a guardrail. A recent TxDOT research project with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute designed and crash tested a transition system for use with TxDOT’s MASH TL-4 compliant guardrail system. This transition design will allow complete implementation of TxDOT’s MASH TL-4 compliant guardrail system.
