(21 Feb 2015) Thousands of protesters gathered in central Moscow on Saturday to demonstrate against what they describe as a "fascist coup" one year ago in neighbouring Ukraine.
The demonstrators gathered near Red Square to protest against events in Ukraine, where a pro-European protest movement last year led to the removal of the country's Russia-leaning president on 21 February.
Anti-Western sentiment in Russia, in part spurred by state television coverage of the Ukraine crisis, has spiralled to new heights.
One demonstrator blamed the situation in Ukraine on external forces working against Russia.
"The producers of the Maidan (movement) and colour revolutions are various organisations abroad which work according to plans developed a long time ago and aimed exclusively at the destruction of the foundations of the great Russia," local lawyer Anton said.
The protesters included ultra-nationalist bikers, pensioners, war veterans, student organisations and other pro-government groups.
Police said that 35-thousand people attended, though those numbers were impossible to independently verify.
