The Dassault Étendard IV manufactured by Dassault Aviation is a French subsonic carrier-borne strike fighter aircraft. Powered by the SNECMA Atar engine The Étendard was capable of transonic speeds exceeding the speed of sound when in a dive. The Étendard was equipped to carry out mission roles such as attack, photo-reconnaissance and aerial refueling tanking. It was often recognized for its popularity with its pilots due to its smooth maneuverability and highly swept foldable wing, which featured double-slotted flaps and spoilers, as well as powered ailerons and leading-edge droop flaps. The maiden flight of the Dassault Étendard IV took place in 1958 and it went into service in 1962. Primary user was French Navy. There were approx. 90 Dassault Étendard IV produced.
