Northwestern announced contract extensions for football coach Pat Fitzgerald and basketball coach Chris Collins during a press conference at the Under Armour Brand House in downtown Chicago.
Athletic Director Jim Phillips told members of the media that both coaches will remain in Evanston well into the next decade. Fitzgerald's contract extends through the 2026 season, while Collins is on the hook through 2025.
These lengthy contracts come with a major pay raise for both coaches. Fitzgerald's new salary is reportedly between $3.5 million and $4 million, in the same ballpark as big name coaches like Iowa's Kirk Ferentz. Collins will see his salary double to more than $3 million, which is said to place him among the top 15 highest paid coaches in college basketball.
