Following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 8th September 2022, we set up dedicated gardens where people could come together and leave floral tributes to The Queen. Over the following weeks hundreds of thousands of people visited the gardens, creating a poignant carpet of flowers.
To create a lasting tribute the flowers were cleared from the parks following the funeral, with help from a pair of Shire horses, Heath and Nobby. Packaging was carefully removed from bouquets, before being transported by horse-drawn carts to Kensington Gardens where they have been responsibly composted. This compost will be used to enrich the soil of London’s Royal Parks, including the iconic displays outside Buckingham Palace, helping new life to flourish across the Royal Parks over the coming year.
