The kite experiment conducted by Benjamin Franklin is a famous event in the history of science. In 1752, Franklin, with the help of his son, flew a kite equipped with a metal key during a thunderstorm. The purpose was to prove that lightning was a form of electricity. As the storm approached, the key on the kite's string drew electric charge from the atmosphere, causing a spark when Franklin touched it. This experiment provided evidence of the electrical nature of lightning and led to important advancements in the understanding of electricity and the development of lightning rods for protection against lightning strikes.
