“Something is boiling, boiling in me,” sings Sinéad Harnett on the 2012 collab with Disclosure that initially got her name around. Though the Brit vocalist had just started her career, her voice, both ethereal and energetic, brought an instant sense of character to the track. In the decade since, she’s developed more of that character. Since her 2014 ‘N.O.W’ EP, she’s been bending modern pop in various directions – soul-drenched moodtronica, dancefloor exclamation, jazzy daydreams, and more. Seems impossible, but they all blend in an engaging swirl on the singer’s new ‘Ready Is Always Too Late.’ Her second album is a great leap forward. Harnett’s music has never lacked confidence, but here she seems in complete control, even while reaching for new tangents. “I’ve been here for a while & I’m still tryna grow and evolve as best I can,” she recently told her Instagram followers. Earthgang, Lucky Daye and others make feature visits, but as the dust settles, all you hear is Harnett’s vision doing its thing.
