What is a pulse oximeter?
A pulse oximeter is a device that's used to measure your blood's oxygen level (oxygen saturation) or SP02. The AccuMed pulse oximeter gives two readings which are your SP02, or oxygen saturation, and your pulse rate (PRbpm). A healthy SP02 reading should read between 95%-100%.
In today's video, we will show you how to use the AccuMed finger pulse oximeter at home. Pulse oximeters are helpful in monitoring individuals with low oxygen levels in patients or individuals with respiratory issues such as Coronavirus, COPD, pneumonia, Cystic Fibrosis, respiratory infections or other issues that affect oxygen flow.
It's critical for oxygen to be carried to all parts of the body. When the oxygen levels in your body fall below 95%, it can cause Hypoxia which is the absence of sufficient oxygen to sustain proper bodily functions.
Pulse Oximeters and Covid-19 Positive Patients:
One of the primary symptoms of Covid-19 that individuals may experience is coughing and shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. AccuMed pulse oximeters are not meant to replace medical professional advice, nor should they be used to treat any illness or disease. However, they can be helpful in helping to monitor the oxygen levels of a covid positive patient at home. Please consult your medical professional if your oxygen levels are below 95% or if you are experiencing difficulty breathing.
