Built in Beirut, Lebanon in 1912 by collector Nicolas Ibrahim Sursock as his private villa and transformed into a museum in 1961, the Sursock is one of the last models of early 20th-century Lebanese architecture. It has also been a steadfast hub for Beirut’s creative scene, staying open even during the Lebanese Civil War. Sadly, the devastating 2020 port explosion caused severe damage to the museum —shattering its stained glass windows and impacting 57 artworks. Since the explosion, local artists and conservators worked to restore the museum to its original splendor and it is now open again today.
