Straightest Arms and Firmest Wrists Drill

My Head Professional taught me something similar, but the way he related it to me was to have me make 9 to 3 swings with the “straightest arms and the firmest wrists”. Granted, I had a bit of a cupped left wrist at the top and was over-swinging. After getting the feel for this abbreviated swing, I began to hit my pitching wedge about 20 yards farther than what I was used to.

Video yourself from face-on till you actually achieve reasonably straight arms and firm wrists throughout this short swing. You will begin to compress the ball like you never have before. Given enough repetitions, this drill will naturally (not forced) provide you with forward shaft lean at impact and much more clubhead speed as well. You're probably need to FEEL like you're swinging from 8 to 4 with the “firmest wrists and the straightest arms” possible. This simple drill amazingly took my game to a level I thought I would never see. I'm 75 years old and play to a five handicap while carrying only 7 clubs in my bag. I always walk and carry a MacKenzie Walker waxed canvas bag. Sure, I probably give up a few shots per round, but I have NEVER had more enjoyment playing golf than in this fashion.
