One of the reasons we practice regular daily meditations (even if its just 5 mins a day), is to strengthen our mental ability to deal with adversity and challenging situations. The craziness that is gripping our planet with the Corona Virus, the hype in the media, the government locking down countries and food shortages certainly qualifies as a challenging situation to say the least.

Through meditation we learn how to spend more time being present, being in the now. I know this is often a difficult concept to grasp but think of it like this: I can either dwell on something negative, or I can choose to focus my attention on something positive. The alternative being, i dwell on the negative because i didn’t realise i had a choice. That’s the beauty of it - in each moment you have the choice to be lost in thought (FYI - the majority of our thoughts are usually not useful or negative) or you can do something about it to be present -
The following meditation is a tool that you can use when things are getting a bit heavy, and the stress of life is getting to you. But more importantly it is a meditation to arm you with a tool that you can use over and over again to help not only deal with the negative but to thrive and make the most of the positive. Because do not forget, amongst the craziness there are beautiful and amazing things happening all the time and we can learn to see this too.
One final thing I will say before we get into the meditation is that it does take practice. If you want a quick relaxing fix, then a few meditations here and there can help, but if you want to really strengthen the mind, it takes practice and repetition. Just like going to the gym, if you go once and do a few squats and lift weights, you will not see any noticeable gains, but if you continue to go, this is where the progress will be made. In the same way - a meditation here or there is no way as effective or useful as a regular practice. Once we sharpen our tools of mindfulness, we are stronger and more prepared to deal with the black belt stuff - Im talking about dealing with losing jobs, dealing with disease, dealing with losing loved ones - Not to say being mindful makes the pain go away, but it helps to reduce the time that we spend dealing with it, and also allows us to deal with it on our own terms and in our own time.
The best thing to come out of the Lockdown - is to getting in more mindfulness practice
