Designed by Board Certified Music Therapists working in the special education setting, this song was recorded at 60 beats per minute to mimic a resting heartbeat. It provides an opportunity for slow rhythmic movement such as rocking, swaying, swinging in a sensory swing, use of a parachute or scarves.
If the instructor has access to an ‘ocean drum’ (found at westmusic.com) the song can also be used with one or more students holding and slowing moving the drum to make an ocean wave sound. Alternatively, use the song in a quiet area while students sit and engage in slow breathing with their eyes closed.
SONG LYRICS:
Move your body back and forth, back and forth, to the ocean song.
Ocean, motion sway with me,
Like the waves rolling in and out of the sea.
Feel the wind on my face, breathe it, set it free.
Throw my worries in the sand, let them be.
Row, Row, traveling with the tide
Row, row, we are calm and peaceful inside.
[instrumental interlude]
Ocean, motion sway with me.
Like the wave rolling in and out with the sea.
Feel the wind on my face, breathe it in; set it free.
Throw my worries in the sand, let them be.
Float, float, with calm water all around
Float, Float, let's relax without a sound.
