Fires, even in typically not-fire-prone areas, are increasingly fueled by grass. Invasive species are taking hold of new habitats across North and South America. The recent wildfires in Hawaii are the most recent catastrophic example, but other costly ones in Colorado, Oregon and Arizona were also fueled by grasses. They're also making it harder for firefighters to combat these disasters.
I explain what these grasses are, where they came from, why they make blazes harder to put out and what's being done to curb their further spread.
