Doug Ingle, the founding member and lead singer of Iron Butterfly, has sadly passed away at the age of 78. Formed in 1966 in San Diego, California, Iron Butterfly became a pivotal rock band with Ingle at its helm. His son, Doug Ingle Jr., confirmed the heartbreaking news on Friday, May 24, sharing on Facebook, "It’s with a heavy heart & great sadness to announce the passing of my Father, Doug Ingle. Dad passed away peacefully this evening in the presence of family."
Ingle Jr. expressed his deep gratitude, saying, "Thank You, Dad for being a father, teacher, and friend. Cherished loving memories I will carry the rest of my days moving forward in this journey of life. Love you, Dad."
Doug Ingle was the last surviving original member of Iron Butterfly. The band's original lineup featured Ingle as the main singer, Danny Weis on guitar, Greg Williams as the bassist, and Jack Pinney on drums. Although Ingle left the band in 1971, he occasionally reunited with them for tours and performances. He also performed with the group Stark Naked and the Car Thieves after his departure from Iron Butterfly.
Join us as we remember the life and legacy of Doug Ingle, whose contributions to rock music will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Doug. 🎵🕊️
