Zaanse Schans is a scenic neighborhood in The Netherlands that is known for its windmills and green wooden houses. It attracts almost 2 million visitors a year and it's a great day trip from Amsterdam. From 1961-1974, old buildings from all over the region were relocated here to recreate an 18th-19th century village. On our tour, we saw the Clog (Dutch Wooden Shoes) Museum and a Clog Making Demonstration; a Cheese Making Demonstration and Cheese Shop; we saw the windmills and went inside one of the historic windmills to learn how it works; we got a Cocoa/Chocolate Demonstration, and we finished our tour with a Pewter Making Demonstration.
