This video clarifies some common misconceptions, namely that greek cypriot police officers can stop anyone they want just to run checks on people - they cannot do that. The authorities usually make the argument that they have to check immigrants for security concerns and to make sure they have legal status. But how do they determine who is immigrant, foreign, documented or undocumented? Racial profiling is prohibited. The police has a mission to maintain public order and prevent criminal acts. It is not their job to select whomever they want, just because they see them walking in the street, and check their names to see if they have warrants against them or if they are undocumented migrants. Immigration authorities have to do their job, while police has to focus on patrolling the streets for public safety and crime prevention.
