Church bells rang as thousands of pilgrims and local Christians gathered in Jerusalem's Old City to celebrate Easter Sunday.
They crammed into the Church of Holy Sepulcher - the site where Jesus is said to have been crucified and resurrected.
For the past week Easter celebrations in Jerusalem have centred around the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Old City.
It is said the church stands on the site where Jesus was crucified and then resurrected three days later.
The church bells rang again on Easter Sunday as thousands of pilgrims and locals crowded the church to celebrate Christ's resurrection.
Easter Sunday is the climax to the week long Easter celebrations.
The Catholic mass was led by the Latin Patriarch, one of the most senior church officials in Israel.
The service was attended by scores of people from a variety of countries.
Many of the people had made a special pilgrimage to Jerusalem to celebrate Easter in the Old City.
Orthodox, Armenian, Coptic and other Eastern religions who celebrate Easter next Sunday held service in their own separate areas of the church.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is just one of a number of holy sites around Jerusalem where people are celebrating Easter.
