Experiment Tips:
- After completing the experiment, be sure to take a couple of deep breaths to ensure you get all of the sulfur hexafluoride out of your lungs.
- Do not inhale too much of either gas, sulfur hexafluoride and helium are not a substitute for real oxygen and can suffocate if over-used.

Helium's boiling and melting points are the lowest among the elements and it exists only as a gas except in extreme conditions.
Speed of Sound: Liquids vs Gases

The speed of sound is higher in solids and liquids than gasses because gasses are less stiff than liquids and solids, and stiffness is the most important factor. Stiffer the material, the faster the sound will move through it.
