STORYLINE:
Britain's Duchess of Cornwall carried out her first solo engagement as a member of the Royal Family on Monday in Southampton.
Prince Charles' new wife, the former Camilla Parker Bowles, visited Southampton General Hospital in her role as the president of the National Osteoporosis Society (NOS).
The duchess lost her mother, Rosalind Shand, to osteoporosis, a bone-thinning disease that primarily attacks women, in 1994.
She has supported the NOS ever since.
She toured both the osteoporosis unit and opened the hospital's Medical Research Council Epidemiology Resource Centre.
The director of the centre presented the Duchess with a plaque and a painting in appreciation for her support as well as an acknowledgement of her recent marriage.
The duchess was married to Prince Charles on April 9.
