U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania attended a Flight 93 National Memorial ceremony on the 19th anniversary observance of the New York City Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in Shanksville, Pa.
Shanksville was the location where United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field after passengers and crew on board attempted to regain control of the aircraft after four Al-Qaeda terrorists on board hijacked the plane. It was one of four planes involved in the deadly terror attacks, that also saw the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon targeted.
The president, in remarks delivered during the ceremony, praised Americans for coming together in the wake of Sept. 11 and commended those 40 people who died on board United 93, calling them "towering patriots" who changed the course of history with their actions.
The names of all 40 passengers and crew were named during the ceremony with two bells being rung in honour of each individual.
A total of 2,977 people died as a result of the attacks, not including the Al-Qaeda members, with 40 people on board the United 93 flight.
