Back in the DOS days, people had to set jumpers and edit configuration files in order to get their hardware to work- the sound card was no exception.
Perhaps the most famous sound card of the era was the Sound Blaster by Creative Technologies. Most games of the DOS era had their sounds programmed to communicate with a SB or compatible driver. Back then, a computer could produce amazing quality sounds using such a sound card.
Today, Creative and the Sound Blaster brand still exist- the sound cards far superior to those of the DOS era. However, some people- including myself- still prefer the distinct and pleasant sound of the older 8/16-bit sound cards, realizing that their quality still holds.
Perhaps my favorite tune was the cute little rendition of Bach's minuet found on the diagnostic disks of certain Sound Blaster AWE cards- the tune certainly doesn't use the full potential of the card, but I find it pleasant to listen to anyway- so I decided to upload it :)! I'll upload more when I have the urge to create a video.
Sound recorded/Screenshot snapped using DOSBOX MB6. In future videos, I will pipe the audio from a real SB16 that I have, but for now it's not necessary.
