Back in 2008 I posted some short (less than a minute) clips of lava bubble bursts and ocean entry lava fountains. This is the longer version with updated enhancements. The Pu'u O'o eruption lasted from 1983 until 2018. Lava has been flowing into the sea for many years during this eruption. Lava bubble bursts and ocean entry lava fountains happen when sea water enters an opening in the active lava tube causing the explosions. Lava fountains can reach as high as 200-300 feet and can sometimes toss molten rock a quarter mile inland! I filmed these lava fountains from a distance of 800-900 feet away from the erupting material. Later in the video you will see people walking in front of the fountains to give you an idea of the size of the lava explosions. These people put themselves in danger of getting hit with molten lava. The area where the lava flows into the sea is very dangerous and could collapse in any given moment. In fact I had to run when a lava fountain shifted and lava bombs started to come in my direction and I was over 800 feet away whereas the people in the video were 400 feet away. This is part 1 of 6.
