The USDA has announced it is increasing food assistance benefits by more than 25% starting October 1, 2021. As a result, SNAP (also called FoodShare or Food Stamps) benefits will increase on average about $36 per person, per month. The increase impacts all 42 million food assistance beneficiaries, and is permanent. We talk about the reason for the change, how it coordinates with pandemic food assistance changes, and the impact of the increase.
