Turtle Mountain is best known for the giant portion of its rock that slid down the the mountain in 1903 and resulted in the 'Frank Slide'. Thousands of tourist visit the devastation down below every year but few climb up to the location where it all started. A round-trip climb up Turtle Mountain takes around 4 hours. It is a straight-forward but grueling slog up from the town of Blairmore to the South Peak. From there, some scrambling and route-finding is involved to navigate to the higher North Peak. Along the way it is very interesting to learn more about the Frank Slide and the current monitoring projects on North Peak that suggest one day there could be a future slide.
