Top five nitrate containing Indian vegetables to reduce blood pressure. Nitrates from vegetables can help reduce blood pressure. Let me explain how this works. Each time the heart pumps, blood rushes out through a blood vessel to the entire body. When the heart relaxes, the blood vessels contract and push blood along. When the heart pumps again they relax. This relaxation is triggered by the release of a gas called nitric oxide from the endothelium, the inner lining of the blood vessel. When the endothelium gets damaged, the blood vessels don't relax and stay contracted. It's like watering your garden with a hose pipe and keeping the opening of the pipe pinched. The water pressure increases and you can shoot water to the other end of the garden right? When this happens inside of our blood vessels, our blood pressure goes up and we suffer from Hypertension. When we eat nitrate-rich vegetables, the nitric oxide from these vegetable nitrates helps our artery relaxed and open up and even helps the oxygen work better providing more energy than before to our body. This has such a profound effect, your blood pressure can actually drop by ten points. Let's take look about five nitrate-rich foods, that can help lower blood pressure.
1.Beetroot. Beetroot juice is a popular drink to lower BP but it is a processed food. Whole beetroot works even better. Beetroot works great as a sabji, in curries or even ground up and added to smoothies and roti too. Your children would love red rotis.
2. Spinach. Just one cup, a day of cooked spinach or Palak can help lower blood pressure. Try it as gravies, masoppu saru or even Keera Masiyal.
