The inability to cause harm does not make a person good. It simply makes a person harmless. A good person cultivates the capacity for harm, but channels those efforts into the exercise of virtue. To command respect, others must first believe that you could cause them harm, if you so chose. This awareness will eventually blossom into respect once they believe themselves to have benefited from that capacity.
