The incident took place today in the morning, when a loaded truck was crossing the newly constructed Bailey bridge which is still yet to be inaugurated. The bridge connects Imphal West and Thoubal Districts, linking Wangoi and Lilong Assembly Constituencies. The bridge collapsed when the truck reached the middle, splitting into two. MLAs Khuraijam Loken and Kongkham Robindro arrived at the scene to assess the situation. According to statements from the MLAs, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has instructed all stakeholders and the Police Department to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident and take action against those responsible for the bridge collapse. A case has been registered at Wangoi Police Station for further investigation.
