This is to show that the transistor choice does make a difference in a bipolar (BJT) buffer. Here is the BC549B compared to my favorite transistor: the 2N2222/PN2222A. Notice that although the BC549B has more bass (probably due to its higher hFE of 370), the 2N2222 (hFE 255) has a much sweeter midrange, lively sound, more twang and more attack. The BC549B gives a compressed attack.
