Steve Montador was born in Canada and began his NHL career in 2000 with the Calgary Flames. He played for the Boston Bruins, Anaheim Ducks, Florida Panthers, Buffalo Sabres and Chicago Blackhawks. Montador suffered frequent concussions and had mental health issues after retiring in 2013. In 2015, he died at the age of 35 from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Montador's death highlighted the importance of athletes' mental health.
